Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy - vein Disease

What is sclerotherapy?

Sclerotherapy involves injecting a vein with a chemical solution (sclerosant).  The chemical solution destroys the inner cell lining of the vein, the vein shuts down and the body reabsorbs it naturally. This causes the blood vessel to close and eventually disappear.

Sclerotherapy Treatment

Sclerotherapy is the gold standard for treating spider veins and is also used to treat certain varicose veins.

You can return to your normal activities right after your treatment. No heavy lifting or strenuous exercise. You can go back to work after being treated.

With sclerotherapy, there is always bruising and clotting of treated veins. Some people clear up in 1-2 treatments and some people require 5-6 treatments.

Many patients return to normal activity immediately after the procedure. Your doctor can help you determine when you can return to normal activity.

The sclerotherapy procedure is performed in-office with minimal pain (bee sting) and requires no anesthetic.

The sclerotherapy procedure is usually not covered by insurance unless  diagnosed with symptomatic varicose veins. As with any procedure, insurance coverage may vary. For more information, please contact your insurance provider.

Vascular Treatments

Spider Veins

Sclerotherapy

Tiny needles are used to inject a solution directly into the vein. This solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades over time.

Vein Seal

VenaSeal

The VenaSeal system delivers a small amount of a specially formulated medical adhesive to seal the diseased vein, rerouting blood to nearby healthy veins.

Closure Fast Procedure

ClosureFast

A small incision is made to access the vein. A cathetar delivers radiofrequency energy to the vein wall, causing it to heat, collapse and seal shut. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood circulation is diverted to other healthy veins.

Vein Disease Treatments

Microphlebectomy

Microphlebectomy is sometimes recommended to treat unsightly or painful leg veins close to the skin’s surface. With microphlebectomy, varicose veins are removed through small punctures, which leave virtually no scars.
