What Is VenaSeal closure system?
The VenaSeal™ closure system treats symptomatic venous reflux disease in the lower extremity superficial venous system, often the underlying cause of painful varicose veins. This procedure uses an adhesive to close the vein. It is the only non-thermal, non-tumescent, non-sclerosant procedure approved for use in the U.S. that uses an advanced formulated medical adhesive that closes the diseased vein.

What can I expect of the VenaSeal closure system?
Before the Procedure:
You will have an ultrasound imagine exam of the leg that is to be treated. This exam is important for the assessing the diseased superficial vein and planning the procedure.
During the Procedure:
The doctor can discuss the procedure with you. A brief summary of what to expect is below:
- You may feel some minor pain or stinging with a needle stick to numb the site where the doctor will access your vein.
- Once the area is numb, your doctor will insert the catheter (i.e., a small hollow tube) into your leg. You may feel some pressure from the placement of the catheter.
- The catheter will be placed in specific areas along the diseased vein to deliver small amounts of medical adhesive. You may feel some mild sensation pulling. Ultra sound will be used during the procedure to guide and position the catheter.
- After treatment, the catheter is removed and a small adhesive bandage is placed over the punctured site.
After the Procedure:
- You will be taken to the recover area to rest.
- Your doctor will recommend follow-up care as needed.

Sclerotherapy
Tiny needles are used to inject a solution directly into the vein. This solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades over time.
VenaSeal
The VenaSeal system delivers a small amount of a specially formulated medical adhesive to seal the diseased vein, rerouting blood to nearby healthy veins.
ClosureFast
A small incision is made to access the vein. A cathetar delivers radiofrequency energy to the vein wall, causing it to heat, collapse and seal shut. Once the diseased vein is closed, blood circulation is diverted to other healthy veins.
Microphlebectomy
Microphlebectomy is sometimes recommended to treat unsightly or painful leg veins close to the skin’s surface. With microphlebectomy, varicose veins are removed through small punctures, which leave virtually no scars.
